A 1.5-day writing, rest & listening experience

Write.

Rest.

Breathe.

Listen again.

Dayscapes are designed for writing! As you write, you will rest, ignite the writing spirit, awaken the soul of your story, and breathe life into intention, development, characters, research, and more.

For those who need more room than a workshop and less machinery than a traditional conference. And to squeeze in a relaxing getaway at the same time.

We’ll meditate together, stretch and allow our bodies to prepare for the words to move within, and pay attention to how the words are showing up in those same bodies.

Of course there will be fun and games that only writers can make come to life.

The Intention: Pages, Pauses, & Presence

A Claudette-curated Dayscape creates deliberate distance from the usual pace.

A deliberate distance from the usual pace.

A Dayscape creates deliberate distance from the usual pace. Writing and reflection are given room to sit beside rest, quiet, spiritual grounding, conversation, and the simple act of paying attention again.

Writing and reflection are given room to sit beside rest, quiet, spiritual grounding, conversation, and the simple act of paying attention again.

You can watch the water as you have a chat with the character in that novel who keeps shifting gears. You can sit on a swing with the difficult part of your life story and allow the momentum to hold you. You can find a spot beneath a tree to journal about the interesting questions that awaken you during the night.

From beautiful private backyards to amazing short-term rentals or enchanting boutique hotels, when Claudette hosts a Dayscape, be assured it’s going to be just the literary doctor ordered.

Three-to-Five-Day Retreats for Spirit, Soul, Story & Discovery

Stay With What Is Asking to

Be Written

Some words will not come while you are rushing.

Some questions need more than a quick answer. Some stories need more than a writing prompt. Some parts of you need time, quiet, care, and a page that does not demand that you have everything figured out.

These Claudette-curated retreats create that kind of room.

They are immersive writing experiences for people ready to explore writing as more than an act of production. Here, writing becomes a way to listen, tend to your inner life, encounter your own wisdom, explore what you believe, and discover what may be waiting beneath the words you already know how to say.

Time, quiet, care, and a page that asks nothing but your presence.

More Than Time Away to Write

Room for the words beneath the noise.

These are not writing marathons built around word counts, rigid schedules, or the pressure to complete a manuscript before going home.

You may certainly arrive with a book, play, essay, devotional, journal, or other creative work in progress. But you may also arrive carrying a question, a transition, a memory, a longing, a calling, or a part of yourself you are ready to understand differently.

Claudette’s retreats are grounded in the belief that writing can be both craft and care language and listening, story and sacred practice.

To remember.

To release.

To pray.

To imagine.

To tell the truth gently.

To hear what your spirit has been trying to say beneath the noise.

A Deeper Stay With the Page

Remain long enough for something deeper to unfold.

A Dayscape offers a meaningful day-and-a-half pause. A three-to-five-day retreat gives the experience time to deepen.

The first day may simply help you arrive.

Then the familiar answers begin to quiet. The hurried language loosens. You have time to write, step away, return, reconsider, rest, talk, laugh, listen, and discover what still wants your attention.

The longer retreat setting gives you room to move beyond your first response and stay with the story, question, or inner stirring until you begin to recognize what it may truly be asking of you.

There is no demand for a dramatic breakthrough. There is simply spaciousness, thoughtful guidance, and permission to notice what becomes clearer when you are no longer rushing away from yourself.

01

Arrive without having to produce.

02

Let the familiar answers become quiet.

03

Return to the page with renewed attention.

Writing as Spirit & Soul Care

Listen more closely.

Write more honestly.

Writing can help us pay attention to what life has not given us time or language to name.

Through guided writing, journaling, reflection, conversation, and intentional quiet, these retreats may invite you to explore:

The stories you have carried but never fully examined

The season of life you are entering, leaving, or learning to accept

The relationship between your faith, voice, creativity, and calling

The memories that continue to shape how you see yourself

The dreams or desires you have postponed

The parts of your life that need release, reframing, or renewed imagination

The creative work that needs room to breathe again

The wisdom your own life has been gathering

The goal is not to force an answer. It is to create a caring environment in which you can listen more closely and write more honestly.

You Do Not Have to Call Yourself a Writer

You only need a willingness to be present.

You do not need a manuscript, a publishing plan, or years of writing experience to belong in one of these retreats.

What matters most is your willingness to be present, curious, and open to what writing may help you discover.

Bring your journal.

Bring the idea that will not leave you alone.

Bring the story you are still learning how to tell.

Bring the question you cannot answer in the middle of your everyday responsibilities.

Bring your unfinished pages or arrive with no pages at all.

Experienced writers are welcome. Beginning writers are welcome. Journalers, storytellers, seekers, creatives, and people who simply know they need time with themselves are welcome.

Faith, Spirituality & the Sacred Page

Choose the experience that aligns with what you need.

Some retreats will be explicitly Christian and faith-rooted. Others will welcome a broader posture of spiritual reflection, self-discovery, and soulful care.

The focus of each retreat will be clearly identified before registration so you can choose an experience that aligns with where you are and what you need.

In every setting, participants will be invited into an atmosphere of respect, compassion, thoughtful listening, and care for the stories entrusted to the room.

Small groups. International settings. Room to be.

Connection without crowding. Guidance without

over-programming.

The environment matters. Each location will be chosen with attention to beauty, comfort, quiet, and the need for both community and solitude. There will be places to gather and places to slip away with your notebook. Time for conversation and time when no one requires anything from you.

The retreat is not an escape from your life. It is a chance to step outside its usual pace long enough to meet yourself and your words with renewed attention.

Guided by Emily Claudette Freeman

She creates the space and walks beside the room.

Author. Playwright. Speaker. Facilitator. Minister. Literary encourager. Keeper of sacred stories.

Claudette brings the whole of who she is to these retreats: author, playwright, speaker, facilitator, minister, literary encourager, and keeper of sacred stories.

Her approach weaves together thoughtful teaching, lived wisdom, spiritual attentiveness, gentle challenge, humor, honesty, and permission.

She will not ask you to go somewhere on the page while standing safely outside the experience herself. Claudette understands what it means to write toward truth, wrestle with memory, listen for God, rediscover one’s voice, and let the words reveal something the writer did not know before sitting down.

She creates the space, offers the invitation, and walks beside the room as the writing begins to do its work.

Come Away Long Enough to Hear Yourself Again

Stay close to what is asking for your attention.

Perhaps you need to return to your writing.

Perhaps you need to return to yourself.

Perhaps the two are more connected than you realized.
